While I do have a personal appreciation for the Haskell programming language (and I plan to do a separate primer for it), I have wanted to explore category theory within the context of programming for quite a while now. Last weekend saw the 2013 edition of BayHac: a two and half day hackathon for Haskell programmers. This year's event was held at Hacker Dojo's lovely new space in Mountain View, California. Several of us who work at Twitter are functional programmers, actually. Peaker: Python's dynamic nature adds slowness and unsafety, but doesn't actually make things more expressive; sj4nz: Programming in weakly-typed languages forever after will feel like working with punch cards. Stuck for a topic at Newcastle's Ruby group, I attempted an off the cuff talk on what Haskell is about, and what Ruby programmers could learn from it. I've always wanted to learn a functional programming language. You needn't to know Haskell to read this article. The outcome has been particularily good in one setup, which I'd like to describe here. I have always sought ways to turn mobile devices into develoment platforms. Have never even written a Hello World with one. You've got Steve Jenson on your list, but you got his username wrong :). Steve Jenson (stevej) – Scala, Erlang, Haskell, many others. Simple socket programming with Haskell. Abstract: We aim for composing algorithmic music in an interactive way with multiple participants. It has been some time now (almost 2 years during my free time) that I: renewed with Functional Programming. Here is a simple program showing socket programming with Haskell, created for a University assignment. A functional programming language like Haskell, for instance, can express the Fibonacci sequence in an intensional definition without specification of an exact sequence of dataflow between memory and CPU. Now I'm going to make that inspiration into action by trying to learn Haskell in a day.
